Due to its proximity to town, this is a very popular trail, especially on the weekends. It’s 1.75 miles and about 2,000 vertical feet to the Fryingpan Overlook, with the option to continue on the full 17.5 miles on this out-and-back hike.
Difficulty: Medium to Hard
From Basalt to the Trailhead: Take Hwy. 82 south of Basalt about 1.5 miles, then left on Bishop Road. Another left onto Holland Hills Rd.; stay straight on Kelly Ct. as it turns to dirt and ends at the trailhead parking lot.
