Basalt is unique in that the official municipal boundaries are rather restricted, leaving the Town of Basalt surrounded by unincorporated areas that self-identify as part of the Town. More information about the different sections of the Basalt area can be found on the Neighborhoods page.
Additionally, the town itself is split between two counties – Eagle County and Pitkin County – so one’s exact location is important as it will determine under which jurisdiction you may fall for the appropriate items such as voting, land use, property taxes, jury duty and more. It can be a bit confusing at first, but a good map can make it easier.
