Boating and Sailing
Aspen Yacht Club
The Aspen Yacht Club was started in 1968 for the purpose of promoting the development of sailing. The club is located at beautiful Ruedi Reservoir, up the Frying Pan River, approximately 18 miles East of Basalt, Colorado. The club is a nonprofit, section 501(c)(7) organization with about 80 memberships.
Perhaps the best asset of the club is there is no electricity, running water, or cell service, so members can truly enjoy spending quality time sailing during the summer months in the Colorado Rocky Mountains!
Although the Aspen Yacht Club is a private sailing club, there are several events each year that are open to the public:
- The Aspen Open Regatta is scheduled near the end of July and brings together nearly 50 sailboats from around Colorado to compete in dinghy and keelboat racing.
- In June the club hosts an Open House where anyone interested in joining the club is welcome to attend to get a better understanding of what the club is all about.i>
- Young aspiring sailors, ages 10-18, can take a class through the Aspen Recreation Center.
Ruedi Reservoir is a perfect escape for the motor boating enthusiasts. Ruedi is a beautiful reservoir for wake-boarding, water-skiing, cruising, and fishing. The boat ramp is accessible through the Ruedi campground. There is also long term boat storage so there is no need to haul your boat back and forth. There is a mandatory boat inspection to stop spread of Aquatic Nuisance Species which is done right at the boat ramp.
For $7 a day, Ruedi is the ultimate weekend/holiday getaway.
